Families of the Grande Innovation Academy participated in a successful continuing education event: Family Math Madness.
The Grande Innovation Academy hosted a Monday Math Madness day November 14th. The teachers in grades K-8th integrated math into every subject all day. The scholars participated in school-wide math stations such as: Estimation Station, What Do You Notice, and Math Scavenger Hunts. Classes were also paired up with their Owl Pals to play a math game. In the evening families were invited to participate in a Family Math Night. There were 24 math games that families could chose from to play.
Patty Messer, The Grande Innovation Academy’s Director, partnered with the Central AZ College Learning Support Specialist in Math, Science and Technology, Elly Macias. The CAC students were the math game facilitators and helped guide families as they played the different games. The Grande Innovation Academy’s K-Kids and Girls in Action leadership groups acted as Math Ambassadors helping direct families to the different rooms.
Messer and Macias worked for 2-months to plan and prepare for this special day and night. They plan on doing is again in the spring because according to Messer, “The scholars were excited about math as soon as they entered the school and saw the oversized dice tower. The day and evening events were a huge success!” For more information on this program, please contact Patty Messer at [email protected]
