King Arthur BreadCasa Grande, Arizona – Fifth grade scholars at The Odyssey Preparatory Academy Casa Grande, a valley charter school, were privileged to receive a lesson in baking from one of the finest companies in America last week.

King Arthur Flour Company, based in Norwich, Vermont, sponsors a nationwide education program for fourth through seventh graders that brings together the science of baking, the art of making and the pleasure of giving back.

King Arthur representative, Nate Sandel and his fellow co-workers travel the country teaching children the joy of baking while referring to common science and math concepts the students are currently learning in school.  The program, now in its 20th year, is more than connecting the dots of science to baking, however.  King Arthur provides supplies for students to take home, make their own bread, and bring back half to donate to a local charity.

Odyssey Principal, Patty Messer, was ecstatic to be chosen for the King Arthur visit because the program so succinctly aligns with Odyssey’s core values of a “hands on” approach to learning with a vision of giving back to the local community.  Odyssey will be donating their loaves today to the Casa Grande Women’s Shelter.

King Arthur Flour is America’s oldest flour company and premier baking resource, offering ingredients, mixes, tools, recipes, educational opportunities, and inspiration to bakers worldwide. Learn more at kingarthurflour.com.
